Generally a nurse with BSN degree takes up the Master Nursing degree to study further and specialize in to certain field. For entering in to Master Nursing degree the requirement education qualification is different for different program but Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited School’s Bachelor degree and RN license of particular state is sufficient. There are some Schools that offer the Master Nursing degree course to those who don’t have a BSN degree but have a certificate of Associate Degree Nursing. There are still some Schools that offer the Master Nursing degree program to other than nursing field graduates. Out of which MSN from RN program is much popular among servicing nurses. The duration of Master Nursing degree depends upon the program you take, but usually it is 1½ year to 2 years.

For Master Nursing degree you have to choose the topic in which you want to specialize. If you choose Clinical Nursing as your specialty than you have to study the science of psychiatry, Care for mental health, nursing in surgery and advanced medical fields etc. If you have chosen to specialize in Administration than they will teach you to be the leader in nursing profession, The program for this specialty field also includes the practice of administration, how to educate, what are the latest information etc. Similarly curriculum for different specialty is different and before taking the admission you must pay close attention to it.
There is a great demand for Master nursing degree holder. After successfully completing the Master degree you can still remain in to the present institution and work towards the PhD program. Otherwise there are many options where you can look for new jobs like Rehabilitation center, Community health center, Cardiovascular care clinics, surgery department of Hospital or clinics, Pediatrics care center, psychiatric hospitals and many more. As a master nursing degree holder you will generally receive double the salary than received by a BSN. |
