If you want to make career in nursing but not ready to do the full four years course of Bachelor Science Nursing degree (BSN), than LPN or Licensed Practical Nurse degree program is ideal for you. The course duration is only two years and it requires no special education qualification. Only High School level certificate is enough to get you admitted in to the LPN program. There are many Schools and Colleges that offers the Licensed Practical Nurse degrees on-line and on-campus. Most people prefer On-line options for study the LPN. After getting the LPN degree you may apply for exam of RN that is registered nurse. There are many programs available that you can take for BSN from RN. Once BSN you can go for Master degree in nursing. In short LPN is a stepping stone for nursing career.
What they teach you?
Licensed Practical Nurse degree program includes only basics and practical aspects of Nursing, without going in to any theoretical details. The program usually covers the topics that is very much relevant to day-to-day work of nursing, like how to take the blood sample, how to monitor the critical signs, how to prepare and give injections, different types of sample collection for different pathology and other tests, how to maintain the records of patients etc.
After successfully completing the LPN degree you may work in any hospitals or clinics as an assistant to RN. You may take up LPN to RN bridge course and apply for the National Council Licensure Examination abbreviated as NCLEX. To get license as RN, every nursing degree holder in U.S. has to pass NCLEX.
